Q. How do I create an account?
A. From the explore page, click the sign up button. We have a quick account creation process; you can use your GitHub or Google account or provide us with a name and email address to get started.
Q. What do I get with an account?
A. Each account gets their own API key to make calls to the Stae API.
With an account, you can also create data sources and importers for your data to see alongside other city data. See our data source and importer guides for more information.
Q. How do I use the Stae API?
A. Once you've created an account, check out the API documentation articles for basic usage. For additional place endpoint documentation, check out the API page when viewing a place's public portal.
Q. What's the difference between community data sources and official data sources?
A. Community data sources are datasets uploaded by people outside a city organization. For example, the Detroit Murals project was a data source from Viranel Cleard of the Detroit Murals Project. Official data sources are those made by city administrators or uplodaed by the Stae team.
Q. How do I create my own data source?
A. To create your own data source, click on the sources icon on the sidebar. Select the
CREATE A SOURCE button on the top right and follow the prompts to name, describe, and find your data source. For a step-by-step tutorial, check out our docs on data source creation.
Q. How do I import my own data?
A. You can import data only for sources that you've created. For example, if you have an IoT air sensor, you can import the data using the Stae API. For datasets on public portals or on cloud storage like Google Sheets, check out our importer docs for more information on how to import data.
Q. How do I export data from Stae?
A. You can export data into one of our integrations through Carto, Plotly, or Tableau. We also provide file formats like CSV, JSON, and GeoJSON for exporting. Navigate to the data details page for the data source you'd like to export and click on the data tab. From there, you can filter and export the data. For more information on exporting and filtering, check out the docs on data sources.
Q. I have a question about Stae that isn't listed here.
A. Please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your question or drop us a line through chat. We'll get back to you within one business day.
